The Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo has said that it would be extremely honourable to receive the FIFA Ballon d’Or award for the second time in his career. The former Manchester United star has already won the FIFA Ballon d’Or award once in his career when he was playing for Manchester United.
Even though he has scored a lot of goals for Real Madrid in the last few seasons, he has been consistently outplayed by Lionel Messi when it comes to winning this award. However, this time around the Real Madrid have won the league title, while Barcelona have not won anything.
This has put Cristiano Ronaldo in an advantageous position ahead of the FIFA Ballon d’Or award being given to the outstanding player. Despite having won it already, the 27-year-old has said that it would be a special feeling to lift the trophy once again. Lionel Messi and Andreas Iniesta are the major competitions for the Portuguese international this time around. Iniesta will be coming on the back of the Euro 2012 victory, while Lionel Messi has scored 73 goals in all competitions last season, which is a world record. Yet, Ronaldo reckons that he should be given the award due to his achievements with Real Madrid.
"It would be fantastic [to win the trophy]. It would mean a lot, I've worked all season for that to win both collective and individual trophies. My immediate goals are to work to the fullest with my team in order to fight for all the available championships. I don’t prioritise one because I want to conquer however many I can, but to do that we’ll have to fight our hardest and do it with humility," said Cristiano Ronaldo in a recent interview. Real Madrid have started the new season with a draw and a defeat.
