RONALDO BOOSTS BALLON D'OR AWARD HOPES

Manchester United talisman Cristiano Ronaldo has boosted his hopes of winning the FIFA Ballon D'or Award this year following his brace in the Champions League clash with Italian team Atalanta in midweek. Ronaldo scored twice in a 2-2 draw to boost his FIFA Ballon D'or Award hopes and drag the Red Devils closer to a place in the Champions League knockout stage in the process.

Ronaldo was second to Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski during last year's FIFA Ballon D'or Award, while Paris Saint Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi completed the top three.

Manchester United star player Ronaldo came into the game against Atalanta on the back of ending his four-game barren run in the Premier League with his goal against Spurs. The Portuguese attacker executed a perfect first half volley to opened the scoring against North London outfit Tottenham Hotspur last weekend thereby ending a run of four Premier League matches without a goal. Ronaldo also provided the second goal for Edinson Cavani before Marcus Rashford came off the bench to wrap up a 3-0 win over Spurs for Manchester United away from home.

Buoyed by his goal against Spurs, Ronaldo scored twice in added time of first half and second half to rescue a 2-2 draw and push his team to within one win of a place in the Champions League knockout stage. Manchester United need to win one of their two remaining games against Young Boys FC of Switzerland (home) and Villarreal (away).

Atalanta had previously felt the scoring powers of Ronaldo when he scored a fantastic header to complete a 3-2 comeback win for his team at home to the Italians. He made it three games in two Champions League matches with his two goals in Bergamo to take his tally to eight goals in 11 games since returning to Manchester United in August.
