Reigning FIFA Ballon d’Or award holder Cristiano Ronaldo has sensationally claimed that Barcelona striker Neymar could one day win the award. The former Santos striker moved to the Catalan club in the summer for around £ 80 million in total. He is also one of the best paid after the recent tax problems forced Barcelona into revealing the true details about his transfer from Brazilian club. In terms of performances on the pitch, it was a disappointing end to the season for the 21-year-old. He appeared brilliant in the first half of the season with several goals.
However, a combination of tactics that did not suit him and poor form meant that the end to the season has been very disappointing. Despite this, Ronaldo, who won the award this year by beating Lionel Messi and Ribery, says that Neymar can win the title one day. The Brazilian striker will be a big draw at the World Cup 2014 as he will be playing in front of his supporters for the first time since his move from Santos. Much is expected from the player after he almost single-handedly helped the Brazilian national team in the Confederations Cup last summer.
Brazil will be in the group containing the likes of Croatia and Cameroon while they start of the tournament against Croatia.
"He has shown a lot of room for improvement in the future. I see Neymar as a great player. I think he has recently shown that he can become a great player in the future. His adaptation at Barca was not the best as he had some problems at the beginning. But he has the potential to become one of the best players in the world. I think he will win the Ballon d'Or one day," said Ronaldo speaking about Neymar.
