Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez claims the striker Thomas Müller can win the FIFA Ballon d’Or award in the near future.
Müller’s achievements can be boosted by very few players across the world. He has recently been good in terms of collecting team awards. At just 26 years of age, Müller has been crowned as the world champion and has won the Bundesliga and Champions League titles with his club, Bayern Munich. He is just shy of making 400 appearances in all competitions for club and country, and Martinez reckons that there is more to come from the striker.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been the dominant force when it comes to the FIFA Ballon d’Or award since its inception five years ago. Last season, Müller came sixth in the list of players shortlisted for the award. This was seen as a major disappointment especially considering that he played a major role in Germany winning the World Cup in Brazil. The FIFA Ballon d’Or award is usually given to the best attacker, who may also have been immensely successful in terms of collecting trophies, over the course of a calendar year. Müller collected some important titles but he finished with just 21 goals compared to Ronaldo and Messi, who were in their 50s.
"Thomas should be considered for the Ballon d'Or.He has done some fantastic things over the past few years. Not just at international level at World Cups and European championships, but also at club level. He will definitely be on the shortlist for the Ballon d'Or and he will be getting closer to top spot step by step," said Martinez, who is hoping that Müller makes an impact in the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid. The midfielder was also in praise of his compatriotArturo Vidal.
