Hertha Berlin is currently in contention to make it to Champions League, but, Salomon Kalou, who is one of the stars at the club, is of the view that it’s something that the players shouldn’t pressurize themselves about and instead should take it more as a source of motivation.
Hertha has not played in Champions League for the last 15 years, but, the fact that they are sitting comfortably at the third position in the standings of the German top division at the moment, it has given a lot of belief to the supporters that the team would make it to Europe this time around.
According to Kalou, Champions League gives a player the opportunity to test his potential and see where he stands as a player and it’s quite an exciting prospect from the supporters point of view as well as they get to see how their team goes against the other top teams in the continent. So, it’s a tournament which everyone keenly waits for and to qualify for it after a long period of time would obviously be big.
In the words of Kalou, “There isn’t a bigger tournament than Champions League as far as the club Football in Europe is concerned and it’s great that we are in a position to make it, but, it’s important that we don’t pressurize ourselves.”
“Our attitude so far in the season has been fantastic. We have stayed calm and played with a relaxed frame of mind and if it remains like that and we keep going in the same manner for the remaining 18 matches too, there is a strong chance that we achieve our target. But, as I said, no pressure and just take the games as they come, one by one.”
