Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that he is not obsessed with the FIFA Ballon d’Or award as everyone thinks he is.
After winning this title for the last two seasons, it is widely anticipated that the Portuguese superstar will hand over the crown to either Lionel Messi or Neymar. Both these players have not only been successful on a personal level, but they have also achieved immensely with their respective clubs last season. Apart from winning the league title, both Neymar and Messi have lifted the Champions League crown with Barcelona.
Ronaldo has been going through a period of very poor form in the last few months and this is directly thought to be a consequence of theBallon d’Or award going out of his hand. The 30-year-old has frequently claimed that he wants to become the best player in the world and one of the biggest recognitions on a personal level is this award. Ronaldo is currently one behind Lionel Messi, who holds the record for the most number of titles with four. The winner of the award will be announced on January 11. Another victory for Messi would move him even more in front. The Argentine has scored four more goals in 2015 than Ronaldo.
"I'm not obsessed by the Ballon d'Or. I'm happy for my season, after the problems I had at the start. Now I've got more confidence and the team are helping me a lot.I don't look for records, the records look for me.It's my seventh season here, and I know how things work around here.I can spend all day thinking about what others think of me. You need to do your job and have a clear conscience," said the 30-year-old. A run of eight goals in four matches has seen Ronaldo return to form in recent weeks.
