Lionel Messi is one of the favourites to win the upcoming FIFA Ballon d’Or award and Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says that he will be the right choice.
Messi experienced vast amount of success last season. It came in the form of Champions League and domestic titles. Even though his Argentina national team came close to winning two major honours – World Cup and Copa America, Josep Maria Bartomeu says that success with Barcelona alone was not matched by any other player on the planet. They should make him a default choice to be crowned as the best player in the world.
Messi has already won the award four times in his career and a fifth title would only extend his record. It would also put some distance between him and his nearest competitor – Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently closed to the gap to three titles. Ronaldo has won the title in the last two seasons and he has certainly deserved during this period after winning the Champions League. Messi has not made a great start to the 2015-16 season and it will be up to manager Luis Enrique to rediscover the form of the Argentine. Messi recently scored his first league goal of the season against Levante.
"Lionel Messi is the best player in the world and we know that he desires, he works, he makes a lot of effort in all the matches and his confidence is incredible. That's why they give him a trophy like the best player of Europe. As I think next January in FIFA Ballon d'Or, well, Leo Messi is the best player in the world so it's normal that he wins everything. We won of course the Copa del Rey, Liga, the Champions League and the European Super Cup. And now we have the Club World Cup," said Bartomeu.
