Uruguay striker Diego Forlan has backed his international compatriot Luis Suarez to win the FIFA Ballon d’Or award if he carries on performing at this same level. The Liverpool striker has become one of the best in the world this campaign after going on to score 23 goals in the Premier league already.
He is on course to beating his previous best of 30 goals last season. Forlan is a player who has played in some of the top leagues in the world like England and Spain. He is also regarded as Uruguay's greatest player in recent decades.
Forlan, who was immortalised recently in some man utd canvas art, has backed Suarez, who has been troubled by numerous incidents like racism and biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, to win the coveted Ballon d’Or award, which is given to the outstanding players every year. Cristiano Ronaldo won the title this year after remarkable 2013 in which he scored more than 60 goals in all competitions.
Suarez has been carrying Liverpool since moving from Ajax in 2011. He was heavily linked with a move to the likes of Real Madrid in the summer, but he ended up staying at Anfield.
After months of speculation, Suarez finally signed a new five-year contract and also became one of the leading earners in the Premier league at a reported £ 200,000 per week.
"His chances of winning are high if he keeps performing as he is now. No doubt it is a very good attack we possess, but there are others that have good attackers too. We have a good foundation after years playing together. Now we have more experience after a good World Cup in South Africa plus a trophy won at the Copa America [in 2011]. We have good players and hopefully we will perform well even though our group is not easy," said Forlan about Suarez and Uruguay's national team.
