Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo have both set their sights on the FIFA Ballon d'Or Award for 2021 after the two superstars started the year in terrific form.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski were the top two at the FIFA Ballon d'Or Award for 2020, while Barcelona skipper Lionel Messi completed the top three. The FIFA Ballon d'Or Award recipient was Robert Lewandowski who helped Bayern Munich to five major trophies last year.
The Polish international skipper was the main man as Bayern Munich won the treble last season. He was the topscorer for the Bavarian giants as they recovered from a bad start to win the German Bundesliga title, the Champions League trophy and the DFB Pokal.
Robert Lewandowski is the reigning FIFA Ballon d'Or Award recipient after his win last year and he's also the favourite to land the award this year ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Lewandowski and Ronaldo were able to lay down a marker with their respective performances in the first game of the new year. The two players netted a brace each in their first game of 2021, while rival for the FIFA Ballon d'Or Award Lionel Messi could only provide an assist for Barcelona in their 1-0 away win over lowly Huesca.
Bayern star Lewandowski scored twice in the last fifteen minutes as the Bavarian giants came from two goals down to beat Mainz 05 at home. The visitors had taken a shock 2-0 lead at halftime at the Allianz Arena but Bayern Munich were able to bounce back with five second half strikes. Apart from Robert Lewandowski, Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sane and NicklasSule were also on target for the hosts. For Ronaldo, the Juventus attacker scored twice to lead his team to a 4-1 win over Udinese at home. His goals took him to 758 career goals as he was able to break the record of Pele (757 career goals) which had been in existence for almost five decades.
